Significance of Navratri, Navaratri Festival, Navratri 2013 ~ Festival of nine days

Navratri, one of the popular festivals in India. The festival celebrates for nine nights. The word Nav means nine and Ratri means night. The nine days of Navratri festival begins on the first day of the bright fortnight of Ashwina month (Aswayuja masa shukla paksha pratipada or padyami). During these 9 days Goddess Shakti worshipped in her various forms as Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The festival also called as Sharada Navaratri, Sharad Navrtri, Shardiya Navratri.

Goddess Durga is worshipped on the first three nights to gain strength, noble virtues and destroy all negative tendencies from the mind, goddess Lakshmi is invoked on the following three nights to bring wealth, luck and the noble values is are real wealth, to purify the cleansed mind. On the last three nights Saraswathi Devi the goddess of wisdom is worshipped to bestow the higher knowledge of the self.

The following tenth day called as Vijayadasami. In sanskrit 'Vijaya' means victory and 'Dashami' means 10th day. The victory is possible by the three goddess blessings as strength, wealth and knowledge. In 2013 navaratri will start on 5th October Saturday will continue for nine days and will be end on Sunday 13th October.
