Bhadrapada Month ~ Bhadrapada Masa 2014 festivals for Hindu Calendar

Significance of Bhadrapad Month
Bhadrapada is the second month of rainy season (Varsha Ritu) which is generally occurs during August and September months as per gregorian calendar. Bhadrapada is a shunya masa which is not good to perform auspicous ceremonies like Marriages, Housewarming etc. Sun transits through Leo and Virgo zodiac signs in this Bhadra month. The period when sun transiting in virgo sign is considered as Kanya (Virgo) Bhadrapada which is shunya masa.

Although it is shunya masa, Bhadrapadam has a specific prominence in hindu religion and it is a good time for worship. Ganesh Chaturthi which is a major festival in India occurs in this month. Apart from Vinayaka Chaviti major festivals and vratas held on this month. It is auspicious to not only perform vratas but also to pay homage to ancestors.

Bhadrapada masa also called as Bhadra mahina, Bhadrapad month in different calendars, Bhadon month as per Nanakshahi sikh Calendar. As per the hindu lunar calendar Bhadrapadam is the 6th month. A Lunar month denoted by the name of moon's constellation on the full moon day. Likewise when moon in either Poorvabhadra or Uttrabhadra stars on full moon day that month denoted as Bhadrapadam.

As per Amavasyant calendars Bhadrapada masa begins from 26th August 2014 and ends on 24th September 2014 followed in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka states.

Amavasya 2014 Dates ~ New Moon Days

The day when Sun and Moon both remain at the same degree in a sign is called as Amavasya or New (No) Moon day. Amavasya is also known as Amavasi which is darkest day in Hindu month. It is the last day or 30th tithi in lunar cycle as Gujarat, Maharashtra and South Indian Calendars. Amavasya days are appropriate to do Sharaddha rituals as the Pitru devatas are lord of this tithi. Most Hindus observe fast and perform Shraddha and Tarpan rituals to appease their ancestors. Sarvapitru Amavasya also known as Mahalaya Amavasya is more important day than all. The most significant Diwali festival is also observed on New Moon day. When Amavasi falls on some weekdays it has special significance. The weekday and name of those Amavasi are here under.

Poornima is a lunar day. When Sun and Moon are 180 degrees apart each other, it is called Purnima tithi. It is very auspious to perform or conduct any new works. Masa Shivaratri dates in 2014

As per hindu calendar Chaturdasi tithi during Krishna paksha of every month is observed as Masik Shivaratri or Masa Sivaratri. Krishna paksha is the dark half of the lunar month which is waning phase of the moon. Chaturdasi is the 14th day after Purnima (Full Moon) OR one day before Amavasya (New Moon). It is considered very auspicious to observe fast and Worship lord Shiva on this day. Usually twelve Masik shivaratri days occur in a year.
